Development Charges Bylaw
The Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce reviewed material related to the issue of local Development Charges. In June, the issue came to a head when city council held a final opportunity for citizens, contractors and builders to offer their input. Following that public forum, the Chamber’s Advocacy Committee submitted a motion to its Board of Directors concerning the Development Charges renewal process, and the motion was adopted by the Board and forwarded to the Mayor and Councilors.
It requested that city council place a two year freeze on Development Charges for residential and non-residential construction and then introduce a phased increase over three years.
City Council has since adopted a new Development Charges Bylaw which sees an increase for a new, single-family home from $3,079 to $13,800 per home over a three-year span beginning January 1, 2010.
